Collect Gyldenblod to nourish the World Tree

The gods are dead, and their blood turned into a golden fog that drives the world mad. You are a dead hero brought back to walk into that fog, hunt the things it twisted, and carry home enough divine blood to revive a dying World Tree.

That’s the whole setup of Mistfall Hunter in one breath. The rest of this page fills in the world you’re dropping into: Weavereach, the Gyldenmist, and why you keep coming back from the dead.

Rise of the Gyldenmist key art

The War of Gods vs Outer Gods

The story starts with a war you already lost.

Mistfall Hunter takes place after Ragnarok — the aftermath of a catastrophic war between the Supreme Gods and the Outer Gods. Nearly every deity died in it. The divine fell, and the world fell with them.

This isn’t background flavor you can skip. The dead gods are the reason for everything that follows. Their war ended the old world, and their spilled blood started the new nightmare.

The Gyldenmist (Divine Blood → Corruption)

When the gods died, their blood didn’t just soak into the ground. It became the Gyldenmist — a golden, corrupting fog that spread across the land.

The Gyldenmist spreads madness and corruption. It distorts souls and drives the remaining beings of the world into madness and mutation. The fog is everywhere (“omnipresent,” in the official wording), and it’s the central force of the whole game. Wherever you go, it’s closing in.

The gods’ blood became a golden fog. Breathe it long enough and you don’t die — you change.

This is why the world is full of monsters that used to be people. They didn’t get killed by the Mist. They got rewritten by it.

Weavereach Today

The world you actually play in is called Weavereach — a shattered, ruined realm living in the shadow of the Gyldenmist.

Under the fog, only a few humans kept their sanity. They cling to survival in the handful of shelters left standing, keeping the faint flame of civilization alive. That’s the human side of Weavereach: scattered survivors, dwindling safe spots, and a world on the edge of ruin.

Everywhere else is ruins. Rich treasure still sits in those ruins — but it’s guarded by the Corroded and by terrifying Mist Lords. Getting it means going into the fog yourself.

The fallen heroes, resurrected as Gyldhunters

The Gyldhunter (You) & Resurrection by Dew

You don’t play a regular survivor. You play a Gyldhunter — a hero who already died and got pulled back.

Here’s the thread that ties it together. A fragment of the Fate Goddess survived the war. Reborn as a mysterious maiden named Dew, she roams the ruins of the mortal world and grants fallen heroes immortal flesh. That immortal flesh is what makes you a Gyldhunter (also written “Gylden Hunter”): a resurrected hero who can keep coming back.

Your job is brutal and simple. Venture into the ruins, hunt the Corroded and the Gyldenmist-infested monsters, and collect Gyldenblod — the divine blood — from what you kill. You carry that Gyldenblod back to nourish the dying roots of the World Tree, reviving the world in the process.

To actually get out alive with your loot, you have to find a rare monster called the Returner Woodling. Kill it, take the Soul of Return it drops, and you can find your way home. No Soul of Return, no extraction. (For the full step-by-step, see the Extraction Loop.)
